Florida, the Whole Week Through

Just some old, sweet friends, keeps Florida on my mind.

Excuse my state this week - I'm in one of those conditions you find yourself in when there are a few days standing between you and your best college friends reuniting in Florida to celebrate a bachelorette party. It inevitably leaves you quite distracted, as the only way to keep from looking at the minutes go (excruciatingly slowly) by on your desk computer clock is by daydreaming of the beach, a three-day weekend, and the kindred souls you get to see a few times a year. In other words, I'm hasta la vista, baby.

Vamos a la Playa

I spent approximately 24 hours in my hometown of Miami, FL last weekend, and that was just enough time to be bitten by the beach bug. I squeezed in a little boat cruise with my family while I was there and have been dreaming of clear blue water and warm sand ever since. Something about the urban oasis that is downtown Houston just isn't cutting it for me today...

Wherefore Art Thou, Spring Break?

Ah yes, spring break. We used to be more than just acquaintances. It's a friendships I held on to as long as I could; it withstood my Teach for America and law school days. But alas, the bond is broken. All that is left is a half-empty promise to return way in the future, when I have children who need entertaining during a school holiday.

And to be perfectly honest the idea of that reunion with my good childhood/college/young adult friend Spring Break just doesn't tickle my pickle at the moment. In fact, it makes me flare my nostrils and eye roll in much the same way scrolling through Instagram and seeing mid-week vacation-bound people while I make a permanent (yet comfortable) dent in my office chair does.

But lest I leave you with the impression that I'm bitter and old and a woe-is-me mood-killer (who, me?), know that - even if for a fleeting moment - shopping for swimwear and beach accessories is enough to harken back fond memories with dear #SBK and enough to put a (fleeting) smile on my very pale, Vitamin D-deficient face.

All I Want Is a Resort Somewhere

Oh, wouldn't it be lovely? Yes, yes it would  - and it seems like you all are feeling the same way, since lately all the messages I've been getting (and social media accounts I've been stalking) revolve around what to wear to some kind of event in some kind of tropical, resort destination. Partly inspired by this and partly by my cousin's upcoming nuptials in Palm Bizzle, I put together these looks that will take you from nada to cha cha 'real quick.

The Mean Reds

For those that je ne sais pas, the Mean Reds are a more severe, progressed form of the January Blues. The difference between the two mental states is best described by the one who coined the term, Holly Golightly: "the blues are because you're getting fat and maybe it's been raining too long, you're just sad that's all. The mean reds are horrible." Horrible!

Just as horrible as getting back from a work trip on Wednesday to find your car covered in a frozen sheet and having to (blindly) drive into the garage to blow dry the windshield until the ice melted (true story). Well it seems Over the Moon predicted my longing to go vacationing would turn into a full blown take-me-to-an-island fervor when they asked me to pick some getaway garb. Check out the article here and take an escape (albeit a mental one) by getting a jump start on some summa shopping.
