Waking Up In Vegas with Over The Moon

Mondays and Vegas are combo that is best described with my one of my favorite Cuban sayings: "arroz con mango." Literal translation: rice with mango - aka no bueno. In other words, the pairing of these things is not regarded as something easy, enjoyable, or natural; it's a disorderly, if not altogether repulsive, twosome.

But today we turn such associations inside out, because on this Monday morning my mind is in Sin City thanks to the fabulous powers that be at Over the Moon. The wedding website to top all wedding websites asked little old me to put together a post on a Las Vegas bachelorette wardrobe. And now all I want to do is hop on a flight to LAS and never, ever shake the glitter off my clothes. Check out the post here and start planning your own trip to the strip with OTM's Las Vegas Travel Guide.

Wishin' & Workin' & Wantin' a Wardrobe

When you give a gal a new job, she'll want some new work clothes (no heels allowed). And some time to catch up with the rest of her life - but that may be too much to ask.

This is my way of apologizing for being a teensy-weensy M-I-A lately (it ain't ever too late to say sorr-ay) and for bringing you the good tidings & joy that I am back to being glued behind a computer screen (aka back in your lives). So feel free to reach out with any upcoming fall shindigs you need some wardrobe inspo of your own for - think of it as my way of not clogging your airwaves with the everyday hustle & bustle of my glamorous life (e.g. on today's agenda - exploring a new, unexplored corridor of the Houston tunnels and possibly making it to cookie happy hour at Michael's Cookie Jar (2 for 1 from 2-3pm = SCAN-DA-LOUS! ). Don't give up hope just yet - Friday is only a day away.

Queen for a Day: Verbena Madrid

What is one of my new favorite trends? Crowns. And what will I be demanding when I get home from my first day at the new job this afternoon? Also a crown.

Cue Verbena Madrid, a brand offering different types of beautiful headband-crowns, each handmade in Spain. Now before you start mumbling to yourself "gurl you think you're royalty? where in the world do you plan on wearing a crown!?" - let me give you some expert examples of how these head pieces are becoming the queen of all accessories (pun intended). Check them out in Vogue Mexico, on Margherita Missoni, and the ladies behind Latin American e-boutique CREO Consulting. The term "verbena" translates to a traditional Spanish party - so what better way to stand out as the birthday-girl/bachelorette/girl-who-survived-a-day-of-work-after-Labor-Day-weekend than with a fiesta on your head? Trick question: there is no better way.

Q: US Open Outfit? A: Consider it Served

As the saying goes, if you believe it, you can achieve it. So I will believe that getting out of Houston this weekend will be easy breezy and that there will be nothing but smooth sailing at the airport. It may take lots of believin' to achieve getting to the US Open, but not so much believin' to find the perfect outfit to wear to the courts this weekend - I did that for ya already

Hurricane Help & Hurricane Wear: Jasmine & Will

I'm on Day 3 of hunkering down for Hurricane Harvey, and with each passing hour I am more overwhelmed by how fortunate I am to be safe and dry. I grew up in Miami where hurricanes seemed like an annual (even welcome) occasion. The difference (as I'm sure you all are very aware of) in Houston is the flooding - the city is underwater.

And while it may seem like so much has sunk to the bottom, the refrain I continue to hear on every news station is "it's just stuff". It is just stuff and what matters - the love, resiliency, and bravery of this city - has risen above the physical and figurative forces that continue to challenge it. The fact that this blog is dedicated to just stuff is not lost on me, and this hurricane has put so much into perspective - I feel nothing but gratitude for what I have. There is no time or need to want when Houston has lost so much.

I live across the George R. Brown Convention Center, where helicopters continue to fly in rescuees every hour (as of today there are 9,000+ people using GRB as a shelter). My husband and I have volunteered at GRB over the last couple days and have seen firsthand how much help is still needed. Please consider helping in any small way

And only because I've had some lighthearted requests for "hurricane wear" - I leave you with an intro to Jasmine & Will, an Australian lifestyle brand making some of the chicest, personalized sleepwear. If you're lucky enough to be stuck at home, stay in your pyjamas (as the Aussies spell/say it), stay dry, and stay safe!
