Binging on: Binge Knitting

What is Binge Knitting? Oh it's just the brand I discovered this week that makes handmade luxury knitwear and accessories in Monterrey, Mexico and also happens to be the name behind my new favorite summa-time accessory. No biggie.

The label prides itself on adhering to an "upcycled process" whereby they gather the "waste" generated by fashion textile factories and take these clips and fibers to a recycling center, where they in turn are repurposed into the unique yarns used to make the affordable, sustainable and high-quality knitted totes and clutches. If you can't tell, I pride myself on finding these tasseled eco-friendly pieces that would compliment your beachwear/mexican top/white-jeans-with-something uniform perfectly. The bags come in a variety of styles and fun colors, providing that extra pop of something you've been needing. I know what you're thinking - say no more, woman, I'm sold - so I'll just zip it and send you here, where you can shop your little heart-in-need-of-a-knitted-something away.

Do You Know a Better Flag to Wave?

Happy birthday to Old Glory, who turns 240 years young today. Leaving my audience with some patriotic rah-rah is better done by the experts, so I'll leave it to them. Give the flag her due by reading the following quote while listening to Born in the U.S.A. and tell me you don't feel like a better American already:

Sure I wave the American flag. Do you know a better flag to wave? Sure I love my country with all her faults. I'm not ashamed of that, never have been, never will be. - John Wayne

'Merica, baby.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Today's post is inspired by none other than the "feels like 96ยฐ" weather we're having in Houston today and the spicy cocktail yours truly will be craving at approximately 4:59 this afternoon. Now would be the appropriate time to tell you all about that chili-infused margarita recipe I've perfected, but alas, such is the stuff of my wannabe-homemaker dreams. So instead, I'll encourage my fellow Houstonians to take a jaunt downtown to visit The Pastry War, where one can (visit me! and) find yummy micheladas with chile pequin salted rims and a jalapeรฑo-infused cocktail that goes by the name of the Pelirojo. Tuesday boozeday, #amIright?

If at this point you're asking yourself: "does this girl ever think about anything else besides happy hour and shopping?", I'll just clear the air and say no, unless you count good plans for future weekends, good theme ideas for future parties, good names for future flat-face cats, good itineraries for future vacations, and all of life's mysteries as worthwhile ruminations

Green Day

It's Monday and after mucho trabajo my brain is having itself a semi-fried kinda life (baby, baby). So we're leaving today's post in the hands of Michel Pastoureau, French professor of medieval history and author of Green: The History of a Color, in which he lists the complicated symbolic meanings associated with the color vert:

  1. The color of destiny, luck, and fortune; of money, of chance, of hope
  2. The color of nature, ecology, hygiene, health, freshness
  3. The color of youth, of the sea that raises, of liberalism
  4. The color of permission, freedom
  5. The color of the Devil and of the strange
  6. The color of acid, which stings and poisons

I like lists, I like knowing weird, useless information, I like the color green, and I like being able to say (with authority now, thanks to Mr. Pastoureau) that when one wears the color green one figuratively and literally dons a fresh-to-death look with devilish vibes. Time to add some more vert to your vestido - good thing I did some leg work for you with the looks below.

Ear Party: Jennifer Loiselle

I recently learned of UK-based jewelry designer Jennifer Loiselle and think you should do the same. Her mirrored perspex statement accessories are (in her own words) quirky repetitive motifs that are filled with colour and imbued with a sense of humour. And the martini earrings are (in my own words) the most amazing things that have happened to my ear lobes in quite some time. They're supa fun, you're supa fun, and it's Friday - what else is left to think about? Getcha some here
