Meta Monday: Karen Mabon

As if Monday's aren't a big enough headache already, I present a collage of scarves that are themselves collages. We goin' meta level today because these scarves, the works of Scottish artist Karen Mabon, are what my little aspiring collage-blogger dreams are made of. They're the kind of find that induce audible "oh-ma-gewrd"s because the magicians who conjure up the Insta-feed algorithms that lead me to such discoveries have done their job, and they've done it well.

Karen Mabon's scarves portray whimsical illustrated montages that evoke (in her own wise words) a "sense of dreamlike familiarity and nostalgia." A fitting description for the "Unhealthy" scarf, which depicts the dangerous combination of champagne, donuts, cigarettes and dancing that we're arguably all quite familiar with from time to time (and that time is Friday, folks). The "Bedroom Floor" scarf is another winner because it teleports you back to the 90's - you suddenly find yourself in your childhood bedroom, surrounded by beanie babies and lava lamps, with not a care in the world besides what hunky automated voice will answer your call on Dream Phone.

In an interview Mabon noted she has "started to notice that the kind of people who buy [her] work buy it because it resonates with them on a personal level." No truer words were ever spoken. I felt so inclined to snag the "Robber in a Sweet Shop" scarf after it spoke to my candy-fiend, sugar-addicted self on a deeply, deeply personal level. I'll venture to say I also feel a connection with Karen the artist, who admits: "I exaggerate everything and my work grows arms and legs too." My itty-bitty blogger arms and legs are still growing, but one things fa sho - my Karen Mabon-decked neck is ready to par-tay

A Texas-Style Easter Hunt

Because in Texas we aren't just on the hunt for eggs. And because I've been blessed with a mother in law that makes the field look like a red carpet. And because this Miami-native sticks to the philosophy that lookin' the part is just as impressive as actin' the part. And because... good #friyay

The Fiesta Formula

Riddle me this: is there a better themed shindig than a Mexican fiesta-themed shindig? That's a freebee because the answer is obviously no, there ain't. So when you're actually attending an event known as Fiesta (yes, as in the Fiesta), throw all notions of an understated, neutral wallflower wardrobe out ze window.

Would I venture so far to say that no parties are more festive than the week-long Fiesta shenanigans that go on in San Antonio, Texas every April and kick off in exactly 6 days and 14 hours (but whose counting)? Maybe I would (I think I just did). But with these dresses, these parades, this line up of events, and reaaaal good Tex Mex & margs, the formula behind this Texas Mardi Gras ranks makes for some festivities that rank prett-ay prett-ay high in my book.

Q: What should I wear to the tennis tourney? A: Something that Will Cause a Racquet

... because of how fly you look, of course. I know I said I would lay off the puns today - oh wait - I didn't say that. But I'll be courteous and stick to the matter at hand: tennis week in Houston. Monday heralded the start of the annual Men's Clay Court Championship at the River Oaks Country Club, which is scheduled to run until the finals on Sunday (rain & bipolar Houston weather permitting).

The springtime tennis tournament is - dare I say it - an event aptly fitting the description of somewhere you go to see and be seen. So what exactly can you expect to see? Tennis done the old-fashioned way ("River Oaks is what tennis used to be, much like Augusta National is what golf used to be" - purposely left in quotations so that you don't kill the messenger), these fine young athletes (can I get a helloOo, Feliciano), and a swanky crowd playing their own round of the who's who game. And as for the what you should be seen in part, I got you covered.

Fun fact on the RO tennis tourney: no tennis tournament in the country has been played longer on the same surface at the same locale. So it ain't only fun and games - although (dare I say it) that is the best part.

How To: Look Egg-Cellent This Easter

Sometimes (most of the time) I just can't help myself or the cheesy puns. And if you're not into my yokes today, omelettin' it slide since I don't carrot all - some bunny out there must get egg-cited about festive word play like I do. And if being punny ain't yo' thang, then at least get on board with the thematic dressing and fill your baskets (shopping baskets, that is) with some springtime styles. Don't you just dye over these pastel picks? Perfect for Easter in Teggsas.

Ears hoping you have a very Hoppy Easter and that I don't lose all my followers for being such an egg-stremely annoying dweeb today!!! Can you tell I had jelly beans for breakfast? #sugar
