Q: What should I wear to a Newport wedding? A: Anything you want to wear because you're perfect and I love you.

When Over the Moon (your favorite wedding website of all time) knocks on your door, you politely ask for a second (to let out your excitement (aka scream in your pillow) without scaring them away) before inviting them in. And when they proceed to tell you about their All Encompassing Guide to Newport, Rhode Island, you resist the urge to shout a litany of words like "YES! hydrangeas! ocean! America! AHH!" in their face, and instead get to collaging in the most professional, cool-as-a-cucumber way. Check out my first OTM feature here (!!!!!).

The Nanna Nanna Sisterhood: Nannacay

Brazilian Marcia Kemp's passion for travel, craftsmanship, and global citizenship converge in the fashion accessories line Nannacay (the Aymara word for sisterhood), and we are the better and more colorful for it. The ethos behind the brand is to be a fashion social project wherein "creative hands transform lives." By serving as the bridge between the local artisans from underdeveloped regions who make each piece by hand (those in need of help) and the the Nannacay-wearer, who Kemp describes as "women who like beauty and admire the simplicity of life" (those who want to help), a bond of beautiful and fashion-forward sisterhood is formed. And I can always get behind a worthy sista-hood cause, especially when a little online retail is involved.

Prepared in Peridot

Tomorrow, tomorrow... tomorrow is August, it's only a day awaaay. I do love me some August. The summertime wind-down coupled with the back-to-school mindset means pumpkins, cooler temps, and twinkle lights are just around the corner. So to welcome these do-not-fear-fall-is-near vibes and pregame the turn of the month tomorrow we're dedicating today's post to August's birthstone: Peridot

Peridot is a yellowish-green gem that derives from the common mineral olivine, which forms inside the earth’s upper mantle and is brought to the surface by earthquakes or volcanoes. It is for this reason that the Gemological Institute of America nicknamed it the "extreme gem", as it is one of only two gems (diamonds being the other) that are not formed in the Earth's crust. And as if that weren't extreme enough, there's also the fun fact that Peridot is said to possess healing properties that protect against nightmares and evil. As one website put it:

"Associated with the sun, Peridot has been prized since the earliest civilizations for its protective powers to drive away the forces of darkness. Set in gold and worn around the neck or bound to the left arm, it was used as a charm against sorcery and magic, evil spirits, night terrors, and madness. It cured cowardice, calmed anger, as well as brightening the wit. Peridot is still celebrated for those virtues, protecting the aura, purifying the physical and subtle bodies, and alleviating emotional burdens, guilt and obsessions. It is particularly beneficial for overcoming fear, depression and other psychological disturbances, as well as releasing jealousies, resentment and spite in order to move forward. Peridot promotes responsibility and forgiveness, instilling confidence in one’s own abilities and reestablishing a sense of self-worth."

WELP, if that's not enough to rev up your Monday engine and get some Peridot in your shopping cart, I don't know what is.

Friday Night Fever

I am of the type that believes you have to listen (and give in) to your impulsive cravings. Today mines a rougey mellow mix of candle-burnin', Bee Gees-serenadin' and cabernet-sippin', with a side of animal print, red nails and glitter jellies. Basically it's tapping into my I'm-wild-and-alive-so-don't-you-dare-stop-me and it's-Mamas-night-off-and-she-ain't-leavin'-this-couch-tonight personas at the same time. It's a dangerous combination, to be sure. What's your Friday looking like?

Florals & Black is the New Black

May House of Lilac's summer bouquet of gerbers, dahlias and silver dollar eucalyptus be a beautiful reminder that the best way to compliment your neutrals is with some florals.
