Paravel: Not Your Abuela's Canvas Bag

While traversing down the rabbit hole that is Instagram, I came across Paravel, a company that claims to have reinvented cotton canvas. The folks behind the travel brand are all about mixing luxury with practicality and fine tuning craftsmanship for the sake of adventure - and to that I say: say no more. Except I will, because the material is also apparently waterproof - so fears of spilled vino on the LIR or having the beer bumped out of your hand at that super rad music festival begone! Or if you do neither of aforementioned things but are exceptionally clumsy because you speak with exaggerated hand motions (like yours truly), even better.

For an idea of sizing, check out homegirl Nicky (Hilton) Rothschild rocking the crossbody capsule (my fav) below. This little nugget of a purse seems perfectly sized for the essentials (wallet, keys, phone, sunnies), and thereby, as a function of the associative property (maybe?), is also itself essential.

Somewhere in Las Vegas there is a place, dangerously close to the border of Tacky Town, where the sequins you don twinkle as brightly as the neon signs that envelop you and the feathers on your frock dance with each pull of the slot machine. I intend to find said place, and intend to do so as a female Elvis fairy incarnate.

Hunter S. Thompson wrote the following on Sin City: "A little bit of this town goes a very long way." Maybe so, Mr. Thompson, but the same can't be said about a proper Vegas wardrobe - don't just go a little bit, go a lotta bit (feel free to quote me on that).

One of my nearest and dearest recently sent me this Who What Wear article, which profiled a fiery and affordable little white number that Queen B wore to her sister Solange's wedding in 2014 (see below). The challenge was to find a similar dress - and the results were some worthy contenders (also found this same brander!).

Allow me to set the stage for this melodrama: you wake up to an e-mail from Rebecca de Ravenel about a Les Bon Bons Valentine's Day sale and before you have time to play the "do I really need these?" game, you suffer a temporary loss of self control. Moments later you regain composure and shortly thereafter a little blue box has arrived at your door.

Take it from moi, the best way to live with the consequences of the impulse-click is to conjure up ways to wear the beauts... and to play a YOLO/treatyo'self mantra on repeat until convinced.
